Welcome to Your English Rural Resident Hub
This page explains the energy improvement work that may be carried out in your home. It is here to help you understand what is happening, why the work is being done, what to expect, and whom to contact if you have a question.
If you have a question, concern or suggestion, please use the feedback form or contact the project team using the details below.
English Rural is working with LivGreen to make selected homes warmer, easier to heat, and more energy-efficient. The work may include improvements such as insulation, solar panels, ventilation or heating controls, depending on what your home needs.
We know that building work in your home can feel worrying or disruptive. We will aim to explain each step clearly, give you notice before work starts, keep disruption as low as possible, and make sure you know whom to speak to if something does not feel right.

What does Retrofit mean?
Retrofit means making improvements to an existing home so it uses less energy and is more comfortable to live in. Put simply, it is like giving your home a warmer coat, better breathing, and smarter controls.
The exact work will depend on your home, but it may include:
Insulation to help keep heat inside your home
Ventilation to help fresh air move around your home and reduce the risk of damp and mould
Solar Panels to help generate electricity from daylight, if suitable for your home
Solar Panels to help manage warmth and energy use more easily
Windows and doors where these are part of the agreed improvement work
Why is this work being done?
English Rural wants residents to live in homes that are warm, safe and affordable to run. These improvements are designed to help:
Keep more heat in your home during colder months
Make your home feel more comfortable
Improve air flow and reduce the risk of condensation, damp and mould
Help lower energy use where the measures are used correctly
Support English Rural’s work to reduce carbon emissions from our homes
Before any work begins, your home will be assessed so the right measures are chosen. The work will be planned and checked by qualified people, following the standards used for government-backed home energy improvement programmes.

What may be installed in your home?
Your home will only receive the measures that are suitable for it. These may include solar panels, loft insulation, ventilation improvements or other energy-saving upgrades. You will be told which measures apply to your home before work starts.
Will this reduce my energy bills?
The work is designed to help your home use energy more efficiently. This may help reduce energy use over time, but the impact on your bills will depend on your home, your energy tariff, the weather and how you use heating, hot water and appliances.
What does retrofit mean?
Retrofit means improving an existing home so it is warmer, healthier and more energy efficient. It does not mean changing your tenancy or asking you to move home.
How will I know the work is done properly?
The work will be carried out by trained people and checked as part of the project. We will also explain how to use any new equipment, controls or ventilation systems before the work is finished.
How will you keep mess and disruption down?
The team will aim to protect your home, clean up as they go, and keep you informed. If you have a particular need, for example because of work, caring responsibilities, health or pets, please tell us as early as possible.
How long will the work take?
This will depend on the work being done in your home. We will give you more information about timings before the work starts and will let you know if anything changes.
Will I have to pay for the work?
No. You will not be asked to pay for the agreed retrofit work carried out as part of this programme.
Do I need to do anything before work starts?
We will tell you if you need to move furniture, clear access to loft spaces, or make any other simple preparations. Please do not move anything heavy or unsafe. If you need help, tell the project team.
